Writing, Typing and Some Play-Doh During OT
Cumberland Elementary School Occupational Therapist, Ms. Samantha Asher worked with two students in Ms. Megan Hennelly's ELS class.
The first activity Ms. Asher did was work with one of the students on writing sentences and her name.
This activity is important because it helps the student improve her hand to eye coordination.
After the writing activity, it was time to play.
Ms. Asher gave the student some Play-Doh and asked her to make circles with it.
The student enjoyed the activity and when she was done, Ms. Asher asked her how many circles she had made.
The student counted the number of circles using her communication device and she was excited about her accomplishment.
Ms. Asher helped the second student work on improving his typing skills.
They began by verbally building a sentence together to create a model for the student to copy when typing.
She then worked with the student on typing the sentence on his communication device.
The student had fun typing the sentences because they were about the teachers that he really likes.
When the student finished the second sentence, Ms. Asher was impressed with how well he did and gave him a high five.
