At Cumberland Elementary School, fourth and fifth grade students have an opportunity to be a part of Cougar TV,  a student‑led, teacher-guided morning announcements program that meets one to two times per week.

Announcements are distributed via the school's "Seesaw" portal, enabling students and connected families to view the daily broadcast.

Fourth and fifth grade students rotate weekly to deliver the announcements.

Each student rehearses a scripted segment and is coached to use a slow, steady speaking pace during recordings.

Library Media Specialist Ms. Sophia Garcia-Smith and Fifth Grade Teacher Mr. Richard McKelvey oversee the group, Ms. Garcia-Smith said they emphasize professional presentation skills, including maintaining eye contact and proper microphone technique.

To engage the school community, each school day follows a theme:

  • Mindful Monday: a brief mindfulness video to begin the week.
  • Terrific Tuesday: recognition of accomplishments and positive highlights.
  • Wacky Wednesday: student‑shared jokes to promote levity and connection.
  • Treasure Hunt Thursday: a blurred or disguised photo of a school object for the community to identify.
  • Dance Party Friday: a short music clip to energize students for the day.
