The Cougar Running Club kicked off in September for students in first through fifth grade.

Fourth and fifth-graders run during their recess on Tuesdays, and first through third-graders run during their recess on Thursdays.

Mrs. Hamman, who runs the club, said it helps foster students' enjoyment of running while giving them a chance to work on goal setting, pacing, and sportsmanship.

Each student carries their own popsicle stick to track each completed lap.

During first through third-grade recess, several fifth-grade coaches help record laps, assist students with finding their popsicle sticks, and serve as course monitors, and provide support and encouragement to the younger runners.

While waiting for Mrs. Hamman and the fifth-grade coaches to head outside, the students excitedly changed, "Running Club!" Having missed the previous week due to rain, they were eager to get back onto the course.
