Cumberland

First grade students at Cumberland Elementary recently had an opportunity to meet Jace, a representative from the company Blue Origins.

Blue Origins, a company based out of Seattle, Washington, builds rocket engines.

Jace first spoke to the students about the solar eclipse, explaining how the eclipse happens and how unique the occurrence is.

Students had the chance to try on eclipse glasses and learned about the proper safety measures to take when viewing an eclipse.

He also talked about his company, explaining how they make rockets which NASA sends to space.

Jace also explained to the students how a rocket lands on the moon.

As part of the visit all of the students created a postcard that Blue Origins is going to send to the moon.

When the rocket comes back, each postcard will be returned to the students with a stamp saying "Flown to Space!"

The students had many great questions for Jace and had fun learning about the solar eclipse and rockets.
